The Issues and Perspectives of Surrogacy in UkraineOn November 8, 2012, the Medical Law Center, together with the Association of the All-Ukrainian Foundation of Companies for Organizational and Legal Support of Assisted Reproductive Technology Programs, held a round table discussion entitled "Surrogacy in Ukraine: Problems and Prospects."
Among the issues discussed at the event were the need to amend the legislation in the field of ART, restrictions on participation in surrogacy programs by foreign citizens, the causes and prerequisites for the emergence of "surrogacy scandals," protection of the rights of participants in reproductive programs, recommendations from lawyers for reproduction clinics, ensuring donor confidentiality, etc.
The participants of this event, including heads of leading reproductive medicine clinics, lawyers practicing in the field of reproductive law, and representatives of human rights organizations, agreed to create a Working Group to finalize the draft Law of Ukraine "On Assisted Human Reproduction." Director of the Medical Law Center, Sergii Antonov, told the participants about the company's experience in resolving conflict situations in the field of reproductive medicine, in particular, legal support for reproductive medicine clinics during their inspections by law enforcement agencies.
